Why Companies Today Are Outsourcing Their Jobs to Foreign Countries

Why Companies Today Are Outsourcing Their Jobs to Foreign Countries

Source: Flickr

Outsourcing is the latest buzzword in the business world today. Because of outsourcing, companies today are becoming more competitive and more efficient in doing their businesses. So, what is it about outsourcing that it is so hot in today’s business world?

First of all, you need to know about outsourcing before rushing in to call other companies and outsource your business process. Outsourcing is a method that a company does by hiring other companies to do the other company’s business process or at least part of the business process in order to save a lot of money and allow the company to concentrate its resources to more important matters.

This is why outsourcing is so popular in the business world today. With outsourcing, you will now able to save your company from spending a lot of money and at the same time, make your company concentrate on more important matters.

Usually, companies outsource their business process to other companies that accepts outsourced jobs in foreign countries. Companies today prefer outsourcing in developing countries, such as Mexico, Philippines, China and India because of the relatively cheap labor in these countries offer.

For example, if your company needs a help desk department in order for your clients reach your company to get their questions answered regarding the products and services they purchased from you, your company will spend a lot of money in creating this department. You will need to purchase computers, get it on a network, purchase help desk software and also hire additional employees to act as help desk representatives. Not only that, you will also devote a significantly large office space in order to accommodate the help desk department. Also, the employees you hire will be asking you for a high salary with full company benefits as a full time employee.

Now that you see how costly it is to create and maintain a help desk department, you should consider outsourcing it to save a lot of money and at the same time, save office space that you can later use for more important company matters.

Outsourcing to foreign countries that has call centers will enable you to cut on operational costs. They will charge you for their services but it will be significantly lower than maintaining your own in-house help desk.

You have to realize how much money you can save if you outsource.

Another vital factor is that your company will be able to divide the business process and let your company concentrate on more important matters, such as marketing, looking for new clients and other money making ventures that your company should prioritize.

The key feature in outsourcing your jobs to foreign countries that charge less is very obvious. With outsourcing, you will be able to save on company expenditures and at the same time, make your company competitive once again in the business world.

However, you should always remember that you should make sure that the company you will be outsourcing your company’s job in should produce a high quality product. In call centers, you should look for a company that employs people who speaks fluent American English with little or no hint that they are from foreign countries and speaks English only as their second language.

So, if you think that you need your company to be more efficient, competitive and save a lot of money, you should consider outsourcing your company’s jobs or part of your company’s job in foreign countries.

In a Short Period of Time, New Outsourcing Wave Called On-demand Sourcing Will Be Here to Change the Way People Work and Force Companies to Revisit Their Corporate Strategy Yet Again. In fact, New Way of Doing Business in the Future Will Dictate Having No Permanent Employees other than Core Business Builders and Top Decision Makers in an Organization.
Jack Welch joined a conference that was held in Duke Fuquay Business School where he was invited to promote his new book called “Winning”. He told audience about how culture is important in a company. Culture builds integration and integration guarantees better products and services for customers. In GE’s 1994 annual report his statements were no different. “Boundaryless behavior…” he said “…has become the right behavior at GE, and aligned with this behavior is a rewards system that recognizes the adapter or implementer of an idea as much as its originator. Creating this open, sharing climate magnifies the enormous and unique advantage of a multibusiness GE, as our wide diversity of service and industrial businesses exchange an endless stream of new ideas and best practices.”
A little over 10 years, does his story still stick? Yes but only in theory… Many multibusinesses have figured out harshly that they need to understand their core business competency and capitalize on that in order to survive, rather than surrendering their many businesses with one culture like Welch said. Simply because, it was not working! Since that was understood plainly, across the globe, multibusiness managements have been under increasing pressure, as they struggle with decisions about what businesses they should be in and how they should structure and influence these businesses. GE, Siemens, Tyco, 3M, and few others have escaped from this fact as they could answer the crucial question: What is your corporate strategy? But this doesn’t mean that they could answer the upcoming question: What is the value behind having permanent employees?
The question is not only directed to multibusinesses but concerning medium and large organizations too. Why do companies have marketing, operations or sales departments? Is that really their core competency to have lots of employees working for them? Most probably, not! Multibusinesses are more akin to danger of fading away, though, because employee means culture and power to them, and one of their core business value is orchestrating them to work together. With the new wave of doing business through on-demand sourcing, every organization will start demoting the role of conducting non-core side of their business in order to be swifter. That role of conducting business will belong to specialized firms, which are future version of today’s consulting companies.
What Lies Ahead?
Futuristic terminology, on-demand sourcing, is about hiring workforce when it is needed and discarding them when the mission is accomplished. Specialized firms will address to the need of on-demand sourcing such as complete marketing, sales, operations (unless they are core values) etc. Specialized firms’ efforts will not only end on forming strong groups to address organizations. They will also be responsible from building a customized incentive package for those groups of temporary employees to work together.
Consequently, everybody except the core business builders and top decision makers will be outsourced by organizations to specialized firms. Specialized firms will come up with their own group of people to serve on-project basis.
What Should Be Done to Be There? The Real Opportunity
Jack Welch mentioned a genius idea in the conference. “Why are we not grading our mature boys (employees)?” Welch asked, explaining that evaluation should not stop after education. In an on-demand sourcing situation, employees will be hired by specialized firms. But they probably need to use a grading system before going ahead and forming a group of employees for an organization. Organizations, in parallel, need to see grades of specialized firms before hiring them. So grading and analytical proof on core-decision making will be key. If there were sufficient proofs supporting top organizations’ decision makers, it would be easier for them to take critical steps and hire right specialized firms for their needs. Rating firms will give organizations the historical success of specialized firms and grade them just like S&P does it for countries. Rating will bring auto control system to both employees and specialized firms.
Through on-demand sourcing, optimizing cash reserves will be easier than ever. Also organizations can be much more agile, business-oriented and focused. The other side of the story, employees, will be more satisfied as the on-demand way of employment will fulfill their incentives more than today in the business environment. Also, how much they earn will depend on their grade, which translates into how trained they are on a specific subject. This will force them to learn more and hone their skills continuously. With all outsourcing craze going on in the world, we don’t have more than 5 years to see this trend shaping our lives so better get prepared for it.

Anything But Team Building

Anything But Team Building

Source: Flickr

Mention “team building” in almost any office or company and you will likely get long faces, groans, and maybe even some good old-fashioned heckling. People avoid voluntary team building seminars and classes like voting. You practically have to bribe them and close down the bars and liquor stores in order to get them to attend—much like voting! But, team building is an important tool that will help any organization remain competitive in this fiercely global marketplace.

One of the main forces driving the increasing need for team building exercises is the changing nature of the workforce itself. At an ever increasing rate, company resources are being allocated with scarce margin for error. Companies simply are not hiring or they are doing so only after the need is so acute that it can no longer be ignored. Even then, it can take weeks, even months, before the Human Resources department can add additional personnel and get them through the process.

The need for team building has become so severe because resources are so very scarce. Businesses had the luxury in years past to completely dedicate personnel to projects which arose throughout the year. In these razor thin times, the only option to contend with projects such as accounting changes, new product line launch, software upgrades and training—any issue that is out of the norm but significantly demands time and resources—is to create teams out of existing resources.

Team building is now a critical factor in Corporate America. Specialists from an assortment of departments from within the company are asked to dedicate a portion of their time to complete various projects throughout the year. The people chosen to form these teams depends upon the nature of the project itself. Different projects will demand different skills and personnel. People must constantly immerse themselves in these teams and bring their particular skill set and experience to the table and help solve the “big picture” issue.

Team building training is a crucial aspect in having the quality personnel in place when special projects arise throughout the year. It is impossible to just throw together various people with different skills and expect them to cooperate and come up with a solution to a problem. People have always required addition training to acquire additional skills. Team building training gives employees the tools they need to better work together in high stress, demanding projects and complete them in the time frames allotted.

Team building training needs to be continuous and updated and practiced regularly in order to keep people effective during projects. A training specialist or human resources professional should conduct all team building training as they have the skills and experience necessary to improve group productivity.

How to find Best Developer when you Outsource your Project

How to find Best Developer when you Outsource your Project

Dear Reader,

Being the CEO of the outsourcing company (Infotrex Services), I have very good
experience of hiring many programmers by myself & I would like to share some tips
so that you can hire the best programmer.

Developers are easy to find, but people who understand what you’re trying to do and are
fanatically committed to do things better isn’t.

Every few days, I talk to clients who outsourced development work and they are not happy with their programmers or the company they deal with. So when we work with these kind of clients,
I make sure that the communication channel is always live and our developers are super sharp
to understand the requirements & work on it. Our focus isn’t on technology as much as it is on our problem solving attitude. We’re not the biggest, we’re not the cheapest, and we aren’t rocket scientists – we just get things done by pushing ourselves to get the best solution for our clients.

Anyway, long story short here – hiring developers when you outsource the project is a headache.
Here are some tips for you:

1. Define the Job description, skill-set & approximate years of experience of a desired programmer

To accomplish this, you need to have someone expert who can define this for you.
Do not ask to your friends or try to answer by yourself. Get professional help.
You can ask this directly to CEOs of outsource companies(like us!!!). Many of
our clients don’t really ask and we suggest that they ask this to us and get real answer.

2. Ask for a brief resume of the programmer
After finishing this first criteria, next best step is to ask for some relevant experience.
This part is tricky one. Some programmers are smart enough and try to fool you by saying
that they can provide you everything which you want and even show you some fake projects work.
Again, get some professional help to get out of this trap. Remember the old saying – All glitter is not gold.

3. Have Some problem sets for testing
It is better to have a small problem sets available, which you can give it to the programmer.
Ask for the logic to solve the problem and if time permits, ask the programmer to even implement the logic and give you test solution. This is the most difficult part and requires
lots of preparation beforehand.

4. Solve the problem for long-term, not short-term
If you are not a fly by night person or a company, and then go for a long term solution.
It means – for your programming needs, do all 3 activities mentioned here and try
to establish the relationship with a programmer or a company for long term.

5. Hourly rate is an illusion game when you keep bargaining
For example, there are 2 programmers. Programmer A is having 2 years of experience and hourly rate is: 20$ per hour. Programmer B is having 1 year of experience and the rate is: 10$ per hour. If you just look for the hourly rate, then choosing the lower is not always good for you.

Now, for particular project work, programmer A will give you 1 hour estimate and for same work programmer B will give you estimate of 3 hours. Just do the math and you will know that programmer A will be cost effective eventually.

Another case: If you bargain with programmer A and tell him to lower the rate, for example 15$ per hour. Once the programmer agree for it, and for same work of 1 hour, if he estimate 2 hours of work at 15$ rate. Again, same thing. Don’t bargain too much. You always have to pay higher for more experience.

6. Seek some genuine advice & research experience

if you have short listed candidates by following all above points; try to find a real genius.
It’s always good to work with genuine people who really love to add value to their client’s
business by giving some neutral advice & by doing little research. Ask some dumb questions
to programmers and see how they answer you. This point will make a long term impact on your business. So, don’t neglect to check this point.

7. Help Programmers to get best out of them

Programmers are people too. Sometimes they have very limited business knowledge or industry
specific knowledge. Sometimes, what is common-sense to you is not really a common-sense to them. Help the programmer to teach some of the business knowledge of your industry and then see what magic will happen.

Next time you hire the programmer, make sure to follow all 7 points mentioned above.
I would be happy to hear your story. Please get in touch for any other help for your outsourcing project or programmer needs.

Software Outsourcing: A Cheap Way to Run Your Business

Outsourcing is now one of the most popular terms you will hear in the business world.
Obviously, it is something that companies benefit from because companies today are extensively using outsourcing as part of their company. Since companies benefit from outsourcing, you would want to consider outsourcing to also be part of your company.

However, you first have to know what outsourcing is in order to fully understand how it can help your company and why this service is so in demand in the business world today.

Firstly, outsourcing is when a company hires another company to do their business process or part of their business process. You may wonder why companies outsource their business process when you can do it the old way and take care of your business process in-house. The reason for this is that companies will save a lot of money when they outsource their business process in other countries in companies that accepts outsourced jobs.

This is because companies that accept outsourcing jobs from other countries already have the facilities and the manpower to do the business process that your company will give them. This means that you will not purchase the necessary facilities and hire the necessary manpower in order to get the job done properly Also, these offshore companies that accepts outsourcing jobs will charge cheaper rates to get it done and they also hire talented professionals who are qualified to get the job done for you.

Another reason why outsourcing is preferred by more companies today is that they can focus more on important matters concerning the company. By outsourcing a part of your business process, your company will be able to fully use all the resources it needs in order for your company to stay competitive.

For example, if your company makes software, you will need a help desk in order to interact with your clients and to answer any problems that your clients may have. If you don’t outsource your help desk, you will need to make use of additional workspace, purchase the necessary technology to start an effective help desk, such as computers and help desk software, and you will also need to hire help desk representatives with full company benefits to man the workstations.

By outsourcing your help desk to call centers located in other countries, you will be able to save a lot of office space to be used for more important company functions. Also, you will be able to save a lot of money from purchasing the technology and hiring full time employees and your company can concentrate more on vital factors.

Today, more and more software development companies are now considering outsourcing their software development program to IT companies in developing countries, such as India, China, and the Philippines. These countries are known to be full of talented IT professionals who are able to develop the software you need in order to satisfy your clients. And, they also charge half of the fee that an IT professional in your country may charge you.

These are the benefits that outsourcing will give your software company. By outsourcing your software development program, such as .Net, Java programming, and other business solution software, you will be able to save a lot of money for your company and at the same time, let your company focus more on important matters to keep your company competitive in today’s business world.

Asset Management and Human Resource Management

Asset Management and Human Resource Management

What is asset management? It is a business process and a decision making structure that covers various things in order to come up with cost effective investment decisions. For this to work, you need to have practice good human resource management by hiring the right people with the right qualifications to get the job done.

This job falls to the human resources department as they are after all the ones in charge of hiring. In the past, the people who worked here simply gave the employees their paychecks. But that is not the only thing they do. They are supposed to train and develop the employees so they feel that they are part of something bigger.

The professionals who are supposed to do this should see themselves as two things. First as a strategic partner and second, a changing agent. Strategic partner because without them, a company will not prosper. A changing agent because it is through them that the employees can become better individuals.

With that, you can say that human resource management is the bridge between the administration and the employee. For a company to practice true human asset management, their human resource department has to do the following.

First, they must have an active role in organizational planning. To make this happen, they must be given the power to dictate what is needed in the planning phase including the necessary resources.

The human resource department should be able to recruit employees that are best suited for the organization by being given a free hand as to how this will be achieved. This includes the selection process which involves the testing and the administering component.

Human asset management can only happen if the human resource department is able to produce change. This is done by seeing what needs to be improved on in an employee and then coming up with programs that will enhance it. This includes of course facilitating and overseeing the training. If this was never done before, it should be evaluated to see if there are any flaws so this can be avoided in the future.

Let’s not forget the basics such as traditional personnel administration such as administering wages and benefits, time management, employee cost management as well as employee performance review and appraisals.

Human asset management is serious business because how well the company does depends on the people they hire to fill up the various positions. If they hire someone and he or she is not qualified, problems will occur. If the company has a high turnover, money is also wasted because of the time, training and money that were invested in that person.

To keep employees happy or motivated, they also have to come up with programs that will enhance their skills even if they should be tempted by offers from competitors.

Asset management is a combination of different things. These include cash, bonds, stocks, property and people. If you want your business to prosper, you must have an effective human resource management team in place that will take care of it. Otherwise, there will be problems within the organization. People will quit and when your competitors see that, this can be used to their advantage to the point that they may even take over your business.

The Human Immune System: The Body’s Defense Against Disease

The Human Immune System: The Body’s Defense Against Disease

Source: Flickr

It is the most basic instinct of any living thing to fight to survive. It is for this same reason why the history of mankind has been constantly marked by various armed battles. Disputes arise because of conflicts between ideologies and religion. The desire to acquire others’ resources and dominate other territories have spawned wars. Since the beginning of time, man has not experienced a respite from bitter struggles that have brought terrible death and destruction.

In a smaller scale, another battle rages on. Bacteria, viruses and other molecular elements can be seen as parties in conflict inside the new battlefield — the human body. People are already familiar with the methodology of warfare maybe because it has been frequently taught in history classes and shown in movies. However, maybe only a few are aware of how this same process occurs within the human body.
In this case, a person’s body is considered the territory with all its abundant resources. The division that protects the territory, just like the armed forces in different countries, is called the immune system. If the armed forces makes use of a group of people and weaponry for defense, the immune system also has its group of cells and chemicals. As a systemic and carefully organized scheme is needed in fighting in order to win, the protecting system of the human body also makes use of what seems to be a well-planned strategy. Like any other system, however, human immunity also has its weaknesses and imperfections.

The immune system is created to protect the body from dangerous intruders called pathogens. A pathogen, upon invasion of the territory, will seek to utilize its resources in order to survive. The survival of the pathogen within the body results to infections. The type of infection that develops corresponds to the kind of pathogen that has formed it. It can either be a viral infection such as in common colds, a bacterial infection like cholera, a fungal infection such as candidiasis (yeast infection) or a parasitic infection like malaria. Either way, infections cause diseases that are detrimental people and may further lead to their death. However, the human body, just like any other territory, will not just stand by during the invasion. Upon detection of intruders, its immune system will automatically react with the similar instinct to survive.

Coded instructions within cells and other substances enable a strategically implemented process of protection. When pathogens enter the initial barrier of the body, they instantly harm the cells that they come upon. As the cells are injured or infected, it instantly releases eicosanoids and cytokins. These two serve as signals that will cause further reaction within the immune system. Eicosanoids cause the blood vessels to dilate so that the blood will rush in to the area and it also attracts white blood cells to respond. The increased blood flow results to inflammation which is characterized by redness and and swelling. Cytokins on the other hand help in the communication between white blood cells that will eliminate the pathogen, attract more immune cells like killer T-cells and promote healing of the area damaged by pathogens. This mechanism of the immune system, however, as said earlier has its weaknesses and imperfections.

Some pathogens, being more complicated to destroy, sometimes have better chances of survival and to proliferate. When a human’s immune system is not anymore able to fight, external help is already needed such as antibiotics. Several antibiotics, however, are not 100% efficient and leave some bacteria to survive. These remaining bacteria often develop antibiotic resistance, particularly to those that have already been used against them and can cause a more dangerous health problem. Newer antibiotics are then necessary in these situations.

Are We Humans Really The Masters Of This Planet?

Are We Humans Really The Masters Of This Planet?

Are we humans beings really the masters of this planet? Do we have the authority to self-righteously assume global dominance? The following article is my view to the questions. It is certainly not definitive. It is just an expression of my own thoughts and opinions.

In my opinion, perhaps we should not assume that our species is central to the world and planet at large. A human economic system should ideally also take into account the well being of the entire ecosystem, which is body of Mother Earth. I will tend to regard the Mother Earth as a living consciousness with her various elements (water, air, wildlife, etc) constantly seeking to remain in harmonious equilibrium. Come to think of it, isn’t this quite like the way the body of a living being functions?

Perhaps, economy and civilisation’s progress should not be about humans for humans only. We tend to see ‘less-than-holistically’ and believe that money-making has little or nothing to do with the welfare of our Mother Earth and the ecosystem. But the fact is we humans do take sustenance from the atmosphere, animal and plant kingdoms; therefore we are dependent upon other species and resources on Earth. As such, human activities should be accounted for within a equation that does not place the human species upon a pedestal (which is being treated as superior); but rather assigns the ‘so-called intelligent biped’ objectively with other species and elements of this diverse planet. In my opinion, the current human activities are simply too self-absorbed within our own kind. The truth of things is that everything, ‘however insignificant it may appear to be, is in actual fact, unique. “Feeling special” and “above others” are simply beliefs concocted by the human psyche, and have relevance only in a human society.

Holistic & equitable replenishment & redistribution amongst all elements and species on Earth should be the a central theme for sustainable living, instead of the human biased “competitive” model. I feel that perhaps recycling of used materials may not be enough. Humans, being the so-called intelligent life form on Earth should actively develop sciences that deal with replenishment of plants, animal kingdoms and elements, keeping resources in equilibrium.

To achieve all that, perhaps the very mindset that first sets competition in motion has to be re-evaluated. Well, this ideal is certainly easier said than done.

Thank you for reading. I hope it has been interesting for you.

Taking A Good Look At The Growth Of Outsourcing

Source: Flickr

The definition of outsourcing is to assign certain functions or processes of a business to a 3rd party organization that provides services related to that specific function. This is done by the virtue of an agreement manifested by a contract that indicates the terms of services which includes the scope and limitations. In this contract, the service provider gets to make use of the resources of the client company while the client company acquires the services from the provider company.

The history of outsourcing goes a long a way back. Modern outsourcing started with manufacturing outsourcing which in the past involved big company names such as Coca-Cola. It outsourced supply chains so that they may be able to have more time to focus on the marketing aspect of the business. From this simple beginning, outsourcing has gone a long way since then.

Today, Business Process Outsourcing is growing at an enormous rate. It encompasses back office functions being outsourced offshore. These functions include HR management services and accounting services.

These past few decades, outsourcing has gone through a lot of changes. From doing simple tasks and functions, service providers nowadays are given more serious and critical jobs related to the company. What used to be considered as a dreaded area to tread into, companies have become fond of offshore outsourcing instead of onshore outsourcing which proved to be more beneficial in terms of the relationship between money and quality. In offshore outsourcing, it has been observed that results yielded are of good quality but obtained at a lower cost.

The Boom Of The Outsourcing Industry

The rapid growth of the outsourcing industry would have not been possible if not for the rise of the Internet. The increase in Internet users has contributed so much in this industry. The boundaries that separated one nation from the other have been severed by the information superhighway thus making it easier for people to communicate with each other. A person from one side of the world can easily communicate with another person at the opposite side of the planet as if they are just next door neighbors.

With the whole world being wired together, it was very easy to transport jobs to people outside the main nation. And with the advantage of the difference in time zones, tasks and functions can be done on a 24-hour basis when outsourcing.

The Benefits Of Outsourcing

1) One of the most important benefits of outsourcing is cost savings. By tapping into the lower cost economies, companies in industrialized nations can take advantage of the developing nations.

2) Outsourcing vendors are usually fee-for-service basis. This means that they are only paid when certain jobs or functions are done. This scheme is very beneficial for companies.

3) Companies become more flexible when it comes to making use of their resources especially in times of cyclical fluctuations.

4) The client company can focus and give more time to the core business activities. The burden of carrying other non-core functions will be handled by other 3rd party service providers.

5) Business process will be sped up due to the fact that certain functions will be taken care of specialists in that area. It is also not just about speed but with quality of work as well.

6) Errors and mistakes can easily be detected and can easily be fixed.

Given these benefits, the outsourcing industry will continue to grow in the future as major parts of businesses.
